Yooper Winery opened in 2016 and John Lucas, Owner of Yooper Winery, has been in the wine making and selling business with his wife Gloria for the last eight years with their start-up winery, Garden Bay. Yooper Winery will continue in the Garden Bay tradition of offering customers the best quality wine Michigan has to offer. We continue to source our fruit from Michigan farms and vineyards and partner with the best vineyard to produce delicious wine. John has successfully transitioned wine making from the Garden Bay location in Cooks to the new Menominee facility.
This year John was able to submit wine made in Menominee to two 2017 international wine competitions and the Michigan Wine & Spirits competition resulting in many awards! From Finger Lakes and Taster’s Guild awards were won for Strawberry, Lights Out blackberry, Raspberry, Yooper Blue blueberry, Marquette, and Strawberry Rhubarb. Michigan Wine & Spirits Competition resulted in 3 gold medals for Plum, Strawberry and Strawberry Rhubarb, Silver medal for Yooper Blue (blueberry) and bronze for Lights Out blackberry.
